Guess What We’re Up To

As of June 1st Schreyer Ink will be on Patreon. For those not familiar with Patreon here’s the low down on how it works.

Like Kickstarter, Patreon is a crowdfunding site, but with some BIG differences. Instead of a single, one-time, large (or medium, or whatever) payment in exchange for a finished book, movie, or product, you are making small (or medium, or whatever) monthly payments. And we do mean small. Even $1 per month is a big help.

So, you head over to Patreon and make a free Supporter account. Then you head over to Schreyer Ink’s page, which will be made public on June 1st, and click the big orange button that says you want to support us. Then choose the tier that suits your budget. We have tiers set at $1, $2, $5, $10, and even a Super Fan tier at $20.

At each tier you have access to some pretty cool rewards and perks including:

  • sneak peeks at all our published and upcoming material, including anthologies
  • discounts and free e-books, and even the chance at some free paperbacks
  • interactive creative content, like polls to help us decide on anthology themes, character names, etc.
  • the chance to name characters, or even become the face of a character in a graphic novel
  • early cover reveals
  • early access to pre-orders and submission calls
  • exclusive interviews with our content creators, and you get to ask the questions
  • public recognition on our blog and in our books (ever wanted a book dedicated to you?)
  • and more!

But why support us in this way? You already submit stories to our anthologies, follow our blog or Facebook page, and purchase books. So why Patreon?

Publishing books can be expensive and as a small press we don’t have a lot of capital yet to foot the bill. And that’s just simple honesty. Our goal at Schreyer Ink is to get interesting books into the hands of as many readers as possible – and that means keeping the cost of those books reasonable. Unfortunately for us that means we’re making pennies per copy, once we’ve paid out-of-house contributors their share. With a steady monthly income from Patreon we can pay our artists and editors a proper wage, upgrade our software, pay our anthology writers upfront for their stories, and more – all without raising the price of our books.

It boils down to this: a little support each month from some dedicated fans (who we will thank and reward and thank some more) means we can support our staff, our contributors, and our readers MORE.

If you’d like to support us you can join our mailing list using the form in the Contact Us tab and we’ll send the Patreon link to your inbox on June 1st. Or, head over to the Open Minds launch event (a 12 hour long, FREE, virtual party) where we will be posting the Patreon link on June 1st. As a bonus you’ll also have the chance to win some cool prizes from some awesome authors.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, drop us a comment or hit the Contact Us button and shoot us an email. We are eager to see what creative doors this next step unlocks.

Can I tell you a little secret?

Writer and editor, Angil Grafton is now on WordPress! She is looking for indie books to review so go check out her page.

Angil Grafton

Okay, here goes….my dirty little secret. Are you ready? Here it is. I have no idea what I am doing. The best part about that is I get to have a tremendous amount of fun figuring out exactly what it is that I am doing…the worst part is the anxiety and fear of failing that goes hand in hand with setting out on new endeavors. I keep telling myself to breathe deep, and just let the words flow. It doesn’t matter if they are perfect, as long as they feel right. Don’t judge to harshly, don’t allow exasperation to hurry you along, when you need to take your time. That’s the downside of excitement, when you skip ahead, and hurry your steps, not fully enjoying the journey.  I want to savor every second. Life should be tasty.

Twilight Madhouse Update #1

We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing Twilight Madhouse Volume 1 early with the stellar submissions received thus far. BUT don’t stop sending in your stories. Our reading period doesn’t close until August 15th! With the volume of high quality submissions coming in we’ve decided to release two volumes this year.

Our first round of acceptance letters will go out before the end of April. Volume 1 will be released August 1st. Our second round of acceptance letters will go out before the end of August with Volume 2 coming out November 1st. If you receive an acceptance letter for Volume 1 you can still submit for Volume 2. If you don’t receive a letter for Volume 1 don’t panic! Official rejections will not be sent until the end of August so there’s still a chance your story is being reviewed by the editorial staff and will be accepted for the original November 1st release date.

For those just tuning in, you can still submit stories to Twilight Madhouse until August 15th. Here are the details:

No, we are not looking for Twilight fan fiction. We are looking for short stories that deal with the grey area between night and day, between sanity and madness, good and evil, monster and hero … you get the point. Any genre will be considered.

Submission length: 1,000-15,000 words. This is a loose guideline. Don’t self reject if you are a little longer or shorter. If in doubt, send us a note with the word count and we’ll let you know if it’s something we’d consider.

Please submit using the contact form on the blog – copy and paste your story into the comment/contact box. If your story is accepted we will request a .doc file.

As stated in our submission guidelines authors will be paid a royalty split which will be paid out 6 months after the release date and on the anniversary of the release date yearly. We pay via paypal. Authors will also be sent a copy of the book in the digital format of their choice with the understanding that it is for personal use only. We request first digital, or reprint, rights. All the details will be provided in a contract sent out in September.

Authors will be notified before August 31, 2017

Authors may submit more than one story though only one will be selected per volume. We accept simultaneous submissions and reprints (so long as the rights have reverted back to you).

Any questions? Just ask!
